Golden Bell Award winner director Arthur Chu appears in downtown Taichung!
Golden Bell Award winner director Arthur Chu appears in downtown Taichung! Since his successful “Back to the Good Times” series, Chu is now working with his high school classmate, the director for TV drama Honey & Clover – Liu Guang-Hui, on their latest romantic blockbuster – Your Name Engraved Herein. With filming underway in Taichung now, they hope that the movie will help everyone relive the moment when they first laid eyes on their first loves.
A few days ago, Chen Yu, Secretary General of the Information Bureau of Taichung City Government and Lin Ying-Chih, CEO of Taichung Film Development Foundation, visited the film crew shooting in Taichung Park with Taichung’s famous ba wan and drinks. Secretary General Chen stated that Taichung City Government will continue to promote the film industry and provide professional production support service. In addition to production support, the city government also provides location scouting subsidy and film activity subsidy, in order to make Taichung a film-friendly city. CEO Lin stated that since the Taichung City Government founded the foundation in 2015, the foundation’s single production support window has been providing services such as location consultation and simplified application procedure, which have attracted more films to shoot in Taichung. Director Arthur Chu, a native of Taichung, said that every time he comes back to Taichung for a project, it feels like coming home. The nice weather, quality food at affordable prices and the ever-cooperative Production Support Division make the entire Taichung the studio for the crew.
Your Name Engraved Herein is set in Taiwan in 1988, after the martial law was lifted. Director Liu Guang-Hui said that some of the scenes they were shooting today were based on Director Chu’s childhood memories. The entire movie was shot in Taichung, Nantou and Canada. Taichung has the comfortable weather and abundant natural and city scenes. This time, the crew was shooting at the Taichung Park Pavilion, a memory shared by all Taichung citizens. It is also the oldest historic site from the Japanese occupation that has been preserved till this day. It also inspired Taichung City Government’s logo design. Rowing on the Taichung Park Lake around the Pavilion is the romantic memory for many of the older generation. The film will recreate the Taichung Park Pavilion in the 80s.
Secretary General Chen also stated that the sheer number of film crews that hav come to Taichung is the testament to Taichung as a film-friendly city. He said that in the future, the city government will continue to promote the film industry and provide professional production support service. On top of that, Central Taiwan Film Studios in Wufeng (opens mid-year) and Central Taiwan Movie Center in Shuinan (estimated to complete next year) will attract even more local and foreign talents to Taichung, which will in turn promote the local film tourism and marketing.
